We’ve been working in the world of stationery since 2009 and we’ve heard a lot of different things along the way. In this blog post, we take a look at five myths in relation to wedding stationery, and why they just aren’t true!
1. The invitation will just get chucked away
Well, yeah. It might.
Eventually.
But I can (almost) guarantee that your nearest and dearest will keep it for much, much longer (if not, forever) as the ONE tangible thing they can keep from your day.
The Very. First. Thing related to your day.
And spoiler alert… the flowers that you choose (and will most likely be more way more expensive than your invitations) will die.

The cake that you cut will be devoured in seconds or left behind.
However, that’s not stopping you from having either of them, right?
But that invitation you think will be chucked away? Years later, it will still be going strong.

And to demonstrate this point here is the invitation from my Grandma and Grandad’s wedding in 1945 which my uncle still has possession of… I wonder how those flowers are doing 76 years later?
2. People won’t bother to RSVP
Well, yeah, some people won’t.
But I bet you can already identify who those people are, right?
The easier you make it for people to reply, the more likely it is that they will (check out our blog post Four Ways to Encourage a Prompt Reply for other tips).
And because of this, all but a few of our invitation styles are already priced to include a reply card (we hate hidden extra costs) and if you really don’t want a reply card, then we have a few super simple yet still incredibly beautiful styles that don’t include one but have plenty of space to include an email address or phone number.
3. It’s cheaper to do it yourself
Well, it COULD be.
You’ve got hours to spare, right?
To research the best types of materials.
To put the design together?
To buy all the equipment you need.
To cut everything down.
To glue everything together.

4. Your invitation doesn’t need to match the stationery you have on your day
Well, the world won’t explode or anything if it doesn’t, so I guess you could be right.
But why would you spend ages finding the right invitation and then have to do it all again for your table plan and other On the Day stationery?
Why not choose a company that shows you how your whole suite of stationery looks, right from the start, so you know that once your invite is sorted, then the rest of your stationery is sorted (every one of our Collections shows you every element of wedding stationery you need for your special day by the way).
And if you suffer from any form of mild OCD like me, then you’ll want to know that the one constant throughout one of the most special days in your life will all match.
Check out these articles from the ‘Real Weddings’ section of our website, where some of our former clients explain how important, and why, it was to them that their stationery matched.
5. Emailing a digital invitation will be easier
Will it?
Really?
You know this isn’t just another party, right?!
This is your WEDDING DAY!
Is an e-invite REALLY the kind of first impression that you want to make about a day which you’re going to so much effort to plan?
And it won’t be easier as such, because you will still have to do all the same research that you would have to do for a printed invitation.
If you’re not finding people’s postal addresses, you’ll have to find their email addresses. And imagine if you get filed in junk! How rude!
You may be feeling overwhelmed at how to create a beautiful invitation, so the temptation could be to just email people, but that’s where using a company like us comes in.
We’re open, honest, and transparent about our pricing and have no hidden extras. We work really hard to cater to all tastes and budgets. We print all of your guest names and addresses for you, free of charge. We design, print, and make your wedding invitations for a really, really reasonable price, and not only that, we put all of your invitations into the right envelopes for you as well so you really do have nothing to do other than seal the envelopes and then post or hand-deliver them!
And even better, once you’ve chosen your invitations, you know that you don’t have to do any more research into the design for the stationery you need on your day. We continue the helpful little free of charge extras with things like your place names where we will batch them all up into the right tables for you at no extra cost because we feel it’s our duty to help make our customers’ lives as easy as possible!

We do, however, understand any environmental concerns with wedding stationery that may steer you towards the digital route – and we share them – which is why we have been a carbon-neutral company since 2020. Find out more about our environmental commitment here, and to see one of the projects we’ve supported, see here.

So there are the five most common wedding stationery myths that hopefully, we’ve now laid to rest!
