How to ‘Uninvite’ Children to Your Wedding

Many brides and grooms are opting to not have children at their wedding, either due to venue restrictions or to keep numbers down. If you have decided that your Big Day will be adults only, here are a few ways to let your guests know. 

We do advise putting some sort of wording on the guest information sheet, just to ensure there is no misunderstanding. We have been told stories of some guests turning up with their children even if they were not named on the invitation, as they assumed they would be invited!

SUGGESTION 1: Size of venue

We regret that the size and type of venue mean that children and young babies are not able to attend.

SUGGESTION 2: Limited numbers

As much as we would like to invite all the children of our guests, due to limited numbers, children are only invited where named on the invitation.

SUGGESTION 3: Venue restrictions

Due to restrictions at our venue, children are not invited.

SUGGESTION 4: Venue restrictions

Due to restrictions at our venue, we regret that only children in our immediate family are invited.

SUGGESTION 5: Close family only

Unfortunately, as much as we’d like to invite all our friends’ children, it is only possible to accommodate children of close family. We hope that you will understand this decision and we very much hope you will still be able to join us on our special day.

SUGGESTION 6: Short and sweet

While we love to watch the children run and play,
this is an Adults Only kind of day.

SUGGESTION 7: Opportunity to relax

In order to allow all guests, including parents, an evening of relaxation we have chosen for our wedding day to be an adult only occasion. We hope this advance notice means you are still able to share our Big Day and will enjoy having the evening off!

SUGGESTION 8: Let your hair down

To give all our guests the opportunity to let their hair down and have a good time without having to worry about little eyes and ears, we politely request no children.

SUGGESTION 9: Invited to ceremony, but not reception

Children at the ceremony,
we’d love them on the scene.
Reception time however,
is an adult’s only theme.

SUGGESTION 10: Cost

Due to cost involved and the wishes of us both, children are not invited to the daytime wedding events. We thank you in anticipation of your understanding.

SUGGESTION 11: We love your children, but…

Although we love your children, we are unable to extend this invitation to them. We hope that you will see this as an opportunity to let your hair down and enjoy the party with us!

Hello! We are Jo & Mark Stratfull (that’s where the JMS part comes from!) and we like to think that we are a creative couple! We wed in 2009, and shortly after, Jo left her job as a PR & Communications Manager to begin JMS Creative. Our company grew quickly, so in 2010, Mark jumped ship from his job in customer service, and joined the JMS bandwagon, and here we are!
