Most couples choose a set menu for their special day, and therefore their guests have no choice in terms of what they’re going to be eating. Of course, dietary requirements will be catered for and should you have vegetarians or vegans or people with allergies, then their needs will be covered with a slightly different choice of meal. However, in the main, guests ‘get what they’re given’.
So, with this in mind, it can be really tempting (pun intended) to think that there is no need for a menu on the table. After all, if there’s no choice, then there’s no point, right?
Wrong!
Food is such a MASSIVE part of the day and it’s probably the thing (bar watching you both declare your undying love for each other, obvs) that your guests will most be looking forward to, so sitting down at a table and not knowing what you’re going to be eating can be a little… well… disappointing.
Put yourself in your guests’ shoes and imagine going to a snazzy restaurant, but not being able to look forward to what’s going to be devoured across the course of the evening. You don’t get the chance to delight in the deliciousness that awaits you. Or, if you’re a bit of a ‘fussy’ eater like me, you may want to prepare yourself for what’s to come… I mean, I would eat roast beef or lamb, but I’d need to get a few drinks inside me first to get through it!
Sorry, what are we eating?
In some cases, you may not even know what’s being served to you! We’ve been to some weddings where the meal has been placed in front of us, and we’ve wondered what it is we’re eating. That is said with no disrespect to the venue at all, but could you tell a red wine jus from a beef gravy on sight? I have to admit that I’m no food connoisseur, so personally, I’d struggle to tell the difference between sliced duck breast and rare thick sliced beef. I know. Mark rolled his eyes at me too!
But my point is, why spend so much money on food if your guests can’t fully enjoy it because they don’t know what’s coming?
You don’t need one per person!
The good news is though, that you only need one or two per table and certainly not one per person. And if you really don’t want the extra expense (albeit tiny in the grand scheme of things!), then we’re so committed to our belief that menus should be displayed, that we’ll offer you an alternative way to show it – like including it on your table plan, or on the reverse of a table name.
Many venues are now allowing couples to give their guests to choose their meal prior to the wedding. Although this can be a little pricier, it can be worth it in the fact that less food is likely to be wasted as guests will be eating what they want.
Have your guests pre-chosen a meal?
If you are in a position of giving your guests menu options, then talk to us about how we can help you collect all of their choices in the easiest possible way for you as we can make it a simple, idiot-proof box-ticking exercise saving time and hassle for you.
And when it comes to the day, we are more than happy to print a reminder of their menu choices on the reverse of their place names so that there’s no memory loss or changing their minds on the day! Your venue will absolutely thank you for doing this and in some cases, may insist on it.
Each of our Collections contains a menu and whilst we’re the worst sales people ever (we will always tell you when you don’t need something and will never look to sell you something to line our pockets at the sake of yours), we really must insist that you include this item of wedding stationery on your tables! đŸ˜‚
