Saying thank you to a group of people who you have just spent a fortune on wining, dining and entertaining can be a little irksome… we get it!
However, remember that all of your guests gave up their time to celebrate with you because you asked them to. It’s likely that many of them will also have given you some kind of gift to mark the occasion of your marriage. They may have spent money on a new outfit, or on travel and accommodation to be with you. They were with you because they care about you and wanted to help you get your married life off to the best possible start.
Sending a thank you card after your Big Day is not just the correct etiquette, it’s a really lovely way to conclude your celebrations, giving a lasting memory for your guests. It brings all of your planning to a natural conclusion and it is the polite thing to do.
Each of our Wedding Stationery Collections ends with a design for a thank you card so you can be sure that your chosen creation will be with you until the very end. However, we also have a range of ‘Photograph Thank You Cards’ if you like the idea of sharing a few pictures from your special day with your friends and family. Be sure that you’ve got permission from your photographer to use them though.
Asking for monetary contributions towards a honeymoon is a popular thing to do , so another nice touch is to share one or two photos of you on your honeymoon on the inside of the card to show your guests what a great time you had!
You should aim to send out your thank you cards within 4-6 weeks after your wedding day, although if you miss this time frame, don’t use it as an excuse not to do it… remember the old adage that ‘It’s better late than never!’
If you’d prefer not to opt for a photographic thank you card, then ordering your thank you cards at the same time as your On the Day stationery can be a great trick in getting your messages sent out as soon after your wedding as possible.
But knowing what to say can be hard and you may be dreading the thought of writing a million (probably not quite that many) cards when you’re suffering from the come down of the highs that was your wedding day, so we’ve put together 10 of the best messages to include in your thank you card. And as always, we are happy to print your envelopes for you FREE OF CHARGE giving you one less thing to worry about.

Message 5
Thank you for sharing our most special day
Now we want to take a moment to say
We’re so grateful that you were there
So many moments we’ve been lucky to share
We’ve made memories to last a whole lifetime
The day we had was really quite fine.
The day went so quickly, time really flew
But it was made all the more special because of you

SMALL MENTION OF GIFTS
Here are a couple of messages which make a small, generic mention about gifts.
Message 6
Thank you for sharing our special day with us and for your generous gift, which we are very grateful for. We hope you had a wonderful day – we certainly did!
Message 7
Having you with us on our special day was the best present we could have asked for, but we are also very grateful for your generous gift. We had the most amazing day and are so glad you could share it with us.

SPECIFIC MENTION OF GIFTS
To make your life as easy as possible, we are able to print personalised messages in your thank you card, but the wording does need to be set out in a specific way. This is the message we would suggest – the personalised parts are shown in bold. Message 8
Dear Robbie & Abbie
Thank you so much for being with us on our special day. We had the most amazing time and hope you did too!
Although your company was the best present we could have hoped for, we are also really grateful for your generous gift of a £50 donation towards our honeymoon.
We’ve made memories which will last a lifetime and we’re so glad that you are a part of them.
With love from
The new Mr & Mrs Smith!

Guests who were unable to be with you on the day:
Sometimes – especially with older relatives – you may have a situation where an invited guest was unable to be with you on your special day, but still sent good wishes and maybe even a gift. In these instances, you might still want to send a thank you card to let them know that you received their thoughts. Here are a couple of messages which work in this situation.
Message 9
Thank you for your good wishes and generous gift to mark our wedding day. We are so disappointed that you could not be with us on the day, but are so grateful to know that your thoughts were with us and that you were with us in spirit! We made some wonderful memories and can’t wait to share them with you at some point in the near future.
Message 10
Thank you for your good wishes to mark our wedding day. We are so disappointed that you could not be with us on the day, but it was wonderful to know that your thoughts were with us.

There is of course no problem at all with you asking for the inside of your card to be blank so that you can hand write a personal message to your guests, but we hope that these suggestions are useful to you as you conclude your wedding planning journey.
